Ketchup is THE perfect condiment!

Of all the condiments on the market, ketchup is definitely one of the most popular! Some like to add it generously to their dishes (fries, burgers, rice, chicken, etc.) while others prefer to use it occasionally.
Where does Ketchup come from?
First, ketchup originates from an Asian sauce of the same name. Following a trip by English sailors, the British were the first to try to reproduce this sauce with ingredients very different from those used today to make ketchup. They tried to recreate a sauce as flavorful as the original Asian one, using mushrooms, nuts, and anchovies. Many years later, a horticulturist passionate about this sauce developed a recipe with tomato pulp, spices, and brandy. Vinegar and sugar were added later to improve the preservation of the product.
The hidden benefits of ketchup
The calorie count is lower than in other sauces like mayonnaise. Thanks to its main component, lycopene, ketchup is rich in vitamin C. But what is lycopene? Lycopene is an antioxidant present in tomatoes that helps prevent certain cardiovascular diseases and some cancers (breast, lung, digestive system, and even prostate cancer).
